CNC TURNING
Lathes, unlike mills, spin the material or part rather than the tool. This allows for the creation of perfectly concentric parts and features. Common examples of parts made by lathes include shafts, hubs, axles, bushings, and pulleys/wheels.
We have one lathe in the shop and it has been put to the test with turning steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and plastics such as nylon and acetal.
Every material requires different cutting speeds, feeds, and tools and careful consideration is required to get a desirable surface finish and complete part.
